Certain technological advances are logical, incremental developments of existing ideas. Many potential improvements to the technologies that we use every day are only as far away as a developer taking 15 minutes to an hour of their time dedicated to such improvements. I call these simple, accessible advancements “Low–Hanging Fruit”, and I’m interested in raising awareness of such LHF in the development community.

By simply announcing LHF, many developers may be made aware of a simple task or project that they would love to take on. The rewards are obvious: that great feeling that you get when you finish a project, minus the months or years it takes to get that feeling on large projects; the knowledge that you’ve contributed to the development community; the functionality you enable for others as well as yourself; and largely, the recognition that goes with being the developer who “fixed it” or “did it right”.
